Street Photography

I recently took up an opportunity to take a group of students to a Nike Air Max experience day and joined in with the students. I love experimenting with the elements and techniques and playing around with the backgrounds and colour. I think quite often post production is only used for enhancing images by perfecting the colour and light which we already have available.

Macro Photography

Capturing fine details is so important when showcasing work. A Macro lens lets you explore those fine details with a camera that your eye cannot see, this is what makes it so exciting.  It can let clients see the finesse of your hard work in fine detail at the same time as creating shots that match the style of your work be that elegant and traditional or fun and exciting. Here is an experimental shoot that I did a while back.

Time Out Mama Lan

TimeHop back to a food shoot I did for Time Out (https://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/mama-lan-1). I do love food photography and I put it alongside product photography as it is something that someone has created. A piece of art on a plate. I enjoy so much watching Masterchef and seeing the art and passion behind the plates of food. It can be quite hard getting that perfect shot which showcases the food off but bringing in extra elements such a chop sticks, hands, the soft wood you can really highlight certain colours and parts of a dish. I have to admit one of my worst nightmares in the photographs of plates of food you sometimes see on menus in cafes or abroad. It puts you off the food rather than drawing you in. Food photography wants to be light, fun and above all, just in reach so that you are hankering after that plate of food!

Glitterbug Bakery

Glitterbug Bakery is a bespoke bakery based near Lewes, East Sussex. Proud owner Karen Brown bake cakes that can be gluten free, diary free, wheat free and vegan.  They bake cakes to order and deliver them nationwide. I had always thought that having a dietary requirement takes the fun out of sweet treats but Glitterbug have put the fun back in them. They not only smell and look divine but are exceedingly tasty.Karen invited me to photograph her bakery and I managed to take some sneaky pictures of her as well! https://glitterbugbakery.co.uk/about/

Family Photoshoot Ditchling

Below is the slideshow with the task at the end plus a few handy print outs which you could have in your camera bag or upload onto your phone for when you are out and about. Please leave your camera on AV/A mode all week and don’t put it away! To upload images for feedback please use the link below and submit under ‘Shutter Speed’. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JIx5ZJBkLy9VhKMuNwlZg3bhGLcpw0rZ?usp=sharing Please use the above link to add any photographs for this week where I can give a little bit of feedback. Week 4

This week we looked at equipment and went through an overview of different types of equipment that would suit beginners. There is so much to explore in this area and so you will find a few helpful links in the slideshow for certain aspects. Please let me know if you are thinking of buying a new camera and would like any advice about makes/models. I process a lot of photographs and have to have everything very securely backed up for work. For this I use Lightroom. For my photographs of my phone I use apple’s photo’s in which I try to go through and delete a load once in a while plus favourite photographs. It’s all very time consuming but perhaps trying out 30 minutes a week could be a start… Lightroom – https://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop-lightroom.html?mv=search&mv=search&sdid=L7NVTQ8Y&ef_id=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaUUWC8-09NSHKypZ3JMsv0bNZHyJjniyR8CFK4jZ9-Cl47aaczqNbwaArNuEALw_wcB:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!3085!3!520937987423!e!!g!!lightroom!1422699962!59976286070&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaUUWC8-09NSHKypZ3JMsv0bNZHyJjniyR8CFK4jZ9-Cl47aaczqNbwaArNuEALw_wcB Here is also a useful link to how to organise your photographs. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/askjack/2014/oct/17/how-can-i-organise-all-my-digital-photos Hard Drive https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/buying-guides/best-portable-hard-drives-for-photographers (I have the transcend which is great).
