Southover Grange is one of the most popular spots for a small wedding in Lewes. Right in the centre of town, it’s ideal for simple, intimate ceremonies followed by a relaxed meal nearby.
This February, Ella & James planned a micro wedding with just their parents in attendance. I joined them for two hours to capture the ceremony and a few moments afterwards — a perfect amount of time for a day like this.
Ceremony at Southover Grange
The ceremony was calm and intimate, with a real sense of ease from the start. Southover Grange works beautifully for smaller weddings — light-filled rooms, simple surroundings, and everything close together.
It’s a space that doesn’t need much, which suits a more pared-back approach.
After the Ceremony in Lewes
Afterwards, we stepped outside for a few photographs around the gardens and nearby streets. Even in winter, Lewes has a softness to it that works well for natural, unposed images.
With shorter coverage, there’s just enough time for a few relaxed portraits and group photos without it feeling like a photoshoot.
A Simple Celebration
After the ceremony, they headed into Lewes for a meal together.
This is something I see often with micro weddings — keeping the day small, local, and easy to move through without a set structure.

Is 2 Hours of Wedding Photography Enough?
For a wedding like this, two hours was exactly right.
It covered the ceremony, a few group photos, and some portraits — without interrupting the flow of the day. For smaller weddings at Southover Grange, this can be more than enough.
